U.S. 1840-C Rare Charlotte NC Two & a Half Dollar  ($2 1/2) Gold Coin ...
Rare Charlotte NC mint Gold 2 1/2 Dollar coin....   In the early 1800s before the Civil War, Gold was found in North Carolina, to turn this NC gold into coins, the Charlotte NC mint was opened and minted only Gold coins, mostly $1 - $2 1/2 & $5 .... Gold coins with the Charlotte mint  "C" are considered very Rare... This mint closed in 1861 at the start of the Civil War and never again opened, most of the "C" mint coins in the Southern banks were shipped to Europe to buy guns and supplies for the Confederate States and ended up being melted by the Europeans.  This coin is an 1840-C dated  $2 1/2 Gold piece....S2,500.00

This mint closed in 1861 at the start of the Civil War and never again opened, most of the "C" mint coins in the Southern banks were shipped to Europe to buy guns and supplies for the Confederate States and ended up being melted by the Europeans.  This coin is an 1860 Civil War dated  $5 Gold piece, it is in a grading case, showing it to be an original Charlotte mint coin in extra fine condition, but with some damage in the form of a number of small nicks along the obverse of the coin.......$2,800.00
