coin-G39. Rare
Charlotte NC mint Civil War Gold five Dollar
coin.... In the early 1800s before the Civil War, Gold was found
in North Carolina, to turn this NC gold into coins, the Charlotte NC
mint was opened and minted only Gold coins, mostly $1 - $2 1/2 &
$5 This mint had a very low mintage compaired to the other mints,
Gold coins with the Charlotte mint "C" are considered very
Rare... This mint closed in 1861 at the start of the Civil War and
never again opened, most of the "C" mint coins in the Southern banks
were shipped to Europe to buy guns and supplies for the Confederate
States and ended up being melted by the Europeans. This coin is
an 1860 Civil War dated $5 Gold piece, it is in a grading case,
showing it to be an original Charlotte mint coin in extra fine
condition, but with some damage in the form of a number of small nicks
along the obverse of the coin.......$2,800.00
